Administrator's Checklist

From AACCA online

How are administrators supposed to verify that their schools are in compliance with the standard of care for cheerleading safety?

Simple. Follow this checklist provided by AACCA to determine your program's qualifications. With the following areas adequately addressed, your cheerleading program is doing what is necessary to minimize the risk to participants and provide a productive activity to the student-athlete:

Knowledgeable Coach

* Attends training camps with team
* Participates in local, state or national coaches' conferences
* Completes Safety Certification Course

Appropriate Practice Facilities

* Adequate Matting
* Adequate Space
* Adequate Height
* Safety Procedures
* Written emergency plan
* Access to athletic trainers
* Staff member certified in CPR/First Aid

Travel

* Cheerleading coach should be aware of and follow school travel policies for safety and proper insurance coverage

Legal Issues

* Pre-participation physicals should be required in accordance with policies on all student-athletes
* All forms should be completed for each participant:
* Medical Release
* Informed Consent/Liability Waiver
* Insurance Information
* Parental Contact Information

By following the same procedures as for any other athletic activity, along with providing safety mats, administrators can rest assured that their cheerleading program is in compliance with the recognized standard of care.
